Compact Soil
Soils consisting of heavy clay or lawns with heavy traffic compact over time. The particles in the soil compact together which restricts the movement of oxygen, nutrients and water causing poor grass growth. Compacted soil can cause the lawn to be vulnerable to drought, disease and insect damage.
Restoring Compact Soil
Aerating your lawn displaces small cores of soil, letting oxygen, nutrients and water to move throughout the soil. Fall is an excellent time to aerate because grass produces more roots in preparation for winter. Combining aeration with a fertilization application is also a great way to get grass primed for new growth next spring.
