Compact Soil
Soils consisting of heavy clay or lawns with heavy traffic compact over time. The particles in the soil compact together which restricts the movement of oxygen, nutrients and water causing poor grass growth. Compacted soil can cause the lawn to be vulnerable to drought, disease and insect damage.
Restoring Compact Soil
Aerating your lawn displaces small cores of soil, letting oxygen, nutrients and water to move throughout the soil. A lawn can be aerated any time the ground is not frozen. However, aeration should not be done during extreme hot and dry weather. Lawns with heavy traffic areas require aeration more frequently.
