Important for healthy and active lawn growth, fertilization focuses on supplying three primary nutrients to the plant: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Nitrogen is the only nutrient grass needs on a regular basis. Once the nitrogen is applied, the growth of both the root and shoot increase. If the application of nitrogen is too frequent and too high of quantity, shoots will continue to grow while root growth will decrease, causing the lawn to be vulnerable to problems.
Signs that a lawn may not be properly fertilized:
- Discolored
- Slow-Growing
- Invading Weeds
- Pest Problems
